UNGIWG-7 Follow-on Action: INSPIRE-UNSDI Meeting

Recent follow-on action in the UNSDI development as reported by Jelle Hielkema on behalf of UNGIWG Secretariat

How FAO/UNGIWG consultant Jelle Hielkema summarized the INSPIRE-UNSDI Meeting for the United Nations Geographic Information Working Group members in his letter received yesterday:
"Another important and concrete follow-up which has been a meeting, convened on 15 December by the SDI Unit of the EC-Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Ispra, Italy, in cooperation with the Secretariat and which, apart from existing in its own right, is also to be seen as a preparatory activity for the UGPM in March. This meeting, with participation from The Netherlands, Czech Republic, Hungary, Spain and Germany and FAO representing the UNGIWG Secretariat, discussed potential synergies and cooperation between the UNSDI development process and the ongoing European Commission INSPIRE Directive Programme, which' policy and legal framework was formally approved recently by the European Parliament and Council in Helsinki on 21 November. The meeting was highly successful, decided a number of important joint INSPIRE-UNSDI steps forward and concrete follow-up action is being formulated for discussion in March..".
