EUMETNET's new portal called meteoalarm announced at the World Met Day 2007

New portal helping alert Europa for Extreme Weather

At the occasion of the celebration of the World Met Day 2007, President of the Hungarian Met Service Dr. Zoltán Dunkel announced the establishment and operation of the web portal "meteoalarm" (www.meteoalarm.eu ) , which was initiated by more than 20 European National Met Services.
The participants received a set of press releases containing also the message of Secretary General Michel Jarraud of the World Meteorological Organisation having members from 187 countries. WMO hosts also the GEO Secretariat, where important actions are scheduled related to the Ministerial Summit later this year. HUNAGI is twofold involved: on national level and via GSDI. More news on this specific subject will be released in one of the next posts.
The professional collaboration with the international meteorological community goes back to 1873. The celebration of the World Meteorological Day started in 1950. Today the international cooperation is fully operational and based on data services and data exchanges. The Hungarian Met Service is one of the major stakeholder also for the UN SDI Hungarian Coordination Office (www.unsdi.hu )
